Calendar Year 2024’s financial summary for the project to fund St. Bakhita Foundation Orphanage

Below, you will find Calendar Year 2024’s financial summary for the project to fund St. Bakhita Foundation Orphanage.  However, first I want to write something about what that those numbers mean to the 32 girls who have benefitted from our work with the St. Bakhita Foundation Orphanage.

Thirty-two girls had a safe place to live and food to eat because of our work. Thirty-two girls had lights and running water. Thirty-two girls received an education for the year, and because of the stability in their lives, they were able to concentrate on their schooling.

1. Four young women, two in their second year and two in their freshman year, spent the year studying at university in the fields of business administration and political science. Two attend the University of Ghana, Legon campus. One attends University of Ghana, City campus, and one attends the University of Professional Studies, Accra.

2. In April, two other young women began a three-year apprenticeship in sewing. At the end of the apprenticeship, they have an opportunity to test for certification and a diploma, and the master seamstress will employ them if they are interested.

3. In September, one young woman began her studies in nursing at the 37 Military Hospital Nursing and Midwifery School.

4. Also in September, five young women graduated from secondary school.

5. Two recent high school graduates received sponsorships that will pay for housing and schooling.

6. Three other recent graduates, along with one young woman who graduated last year, were accepted to Central University and began their studies in this month (February). They are studying pre-law, psychology, health and social care, and business administration.

5. Five girls continue their secondary school studies at various public boarding schools in the region.

6. The remaining 14 girls in elementary school and junior high continue their studies at Teshie Estate Preparatory School and Junior High School.

Many of you helped make this effort possible, but the local community – schools and small businesses – also advanced money to allow the girls to go to school with the appropriate supplies. The orphanage owes these small businesses money for junior school fees, rent, provisions for boarders at high school and university, and medical bills. Our work is not done and likely won’t be until the remaining 30 girl have completed school and tertiary training, though we continue to search for appropriate grants to help fund the orphanage and the girls’ educations.

We are grateful for every bit of help and we hope you will consider more help to get us through another year. And now the numbers. . . .
