29 December 2023. Gift of the Butterfly charitable works drives at making one smile. Given the festive season, the team took the St. Bakhita girls on a trip.
Our first destination was Laboma Beach, where we held a picnic on the shores of the Gulf of Guinea.
A Christmas Feast for the Girls of St. Bakhita
Here in Africa, precisely Ghana, it’s quite common that households can afford a sumptuous meal on Christmas, even if they can’t afford one for the entire year. And that’s exactly what the team ordered for the girls. This year the girls from St. Bakhita feasted on the traditional dish Banku with tilapia, along with fried rice with chicken, and drinks.
Splashing into the New Year
Following the meal together, the girls braved the sea to experience it firsthand under close supervision, as some are very young and the waves can be quite fierce. Their sheer happiness was contagious.
A Walk Around the Mall
The girls spent more than an hour playing at the beach before boarding a bus to the Junction Mall, one of the shopping malls in Accra to continue with the fun. They window-shopped and people-watched as they enjoyed some time away from the orphanage. Their first experience with such an event was made possible by through a gift from our founders.
You Can Help the Girls of St. Bakhita
Life at the orphanage can be challenging and the Orphans there somewhat feel detached and sheltered. The Gift of the Butterfly charitable works desires to provide the girls safe housing, loving caregivers, schooling. Our goal is that they are part of a large family that genuinely cares for them. If you would like to help meet that goal select the pledge button and donate funds towards housing, school fees and other necessities. Thank you for your support!
